Summary: John Plunkett, reflecting on Gustav Mahler's Second Symphony (referred to as the Resurrection Symphony), marvels that Mahler's concept of the Resurrection of the Dead is very close to the Bible. This message compares the biblical concept of the resurrection with the misinformation purveyed to the world's churches, trying to harmonize the Apostle's Creed, espousing a belief in the Resurrection, with the doxology, the Beatific Vision, and Purgatory, all negating a future resurrection. God's called out ones embrace the Word of God as revealed in His Holy Scriptures, which states that God raised His Son from the dead, will raise His called-out ones in a first resurrection, will raise those who have never been exposed to the truth in a second resurrection, and some few who reject His offer of eternal life to face their oblivion. Substantiation for the Resurrection is found in Job, where he talks about waiting in the grave for his change. Daniel realized that some would be resurrected to glory and others would be resurrected to shame. John realized that we would be called children of God and will see Him as He is. The vast majority of humanity who will be resurrected to physical life will gladly accept Christ's offer of living under God's way. Paul, in his resurrection chapter (1 Corinthians 15), gives the most definitive outline of the series of resurrections. The First Resurrection is the most desirable, giving access to God, with death no longer having power over us, and, as priests and kings, will participate in the transformation of the rest of mankind from mortal to immortal.
