sermonette: The Second Passover

Who Can Take It and Why
Richard T. Ritenbaugh
Given 06-Apr-02; Tape #552s; 24 minutes

Description: (hide)

Only emergency or unavoidable circumstances should one ever seek to reschedule the Passover. Nevertheless, because of its seriousness, God has provided a mechanism for a rescheduling if there is a legitimate need. For example, in II Chronicles 30, when, because an insufficient number of priests had sanctified themselves, Hezekiah made some emergency reforms. The actual biblical permission for such a practice is found in Numbers 9:11. People who had become defiled were given permission to keep it one month later. These two events set precedents: (1) Uncleanness or sickness (forcing quarantine) and (2) absence because of an extreme emergency like a death in the family.
